This oratory has a square pillar, masonry made of squared and seated rubble stones, and mortar-weighed. Its niche is formed by four large ashlars and receives the votive statuette of the Virgin.
This niche is closed by an iron grille, behind which a riveted marble plaque bearing the name of the saint can be seen. Its roof consists of a gable roof made of two large flat stones.
Historical background:
The present oratory replaces an old oratory of 1840 dedicated to Saint Joseph which was located before the construction of the dam of Sainte Croix, on the road from Fontaine l'évêque to Sambuc.
In 1975, the oratory was moved in cooperation with E.D.F. and the association of the Friends of the Oratories. It has not been completely rebuilt identically. The font, the stones of the cross, the style and the dedication of the old one have not been preserved.
Before the construction of the dam and the flooding of the lake, which covered part of the cultivated land of the village in 1974, there were twelve oratories in Bauduen.
The wooden statue protected by a barred gate was donated by Miss Griesheimer from Darmstadt.
In 1938, the oratory of St. Joseph was restored by Mr. Jauffret de Villecroze, the parish priest and the Friends of the Oratories who provided the present votive statuette. It was moved and rebuilt during the construction of the Holy Cross Dam. It was dedicated to Our Lady of Hope.
This aedicula is in good condition.
