Oratory of Saint Eloy

Saint Eloy or Eloi was born around 588 in Chaptelat (near Limoges) and died in 660. The "good Saint Eloi" came from a family of well-to-do peasants. Despite this, he entered a workshop as an apprentice silversmith where he proved to be very skilled. In 641, he was appointed bishop of Noyon and Tournai while being the minister of finance of Dagobert I. His relics rest in the cathedral of Noyon.
Saint-Eloy is the patron saint of goldsmiths, jewelers, ironworkers and cabinetmakers. He is also the protector of horses and donkeys. The distinctive signs are the anvil and the hammer. He is celebrated on June 25.
