Before 1761, there was only one fountain. The supply of water to the inhabitants was supplemented by numerous wells, such as the one that can still be seen at the far end of the village, or by individual reservoirs that collected rainwater.
"In 1761, the consuls of the commune requested permission to build a new fountain, at the place known as "Le Paty", or pâtis, which traditionally refers to a herbaceous area where animals are grazed.
Following the fountain, a little further down the street, a basin was quickly built to serve as a wash-house.
This building has a fountain leaning against a masonry of seated ashlar. A chronogram engraved on this buffet wall indicates the date 1761. The shape of the fountain's embrace can be found identically in several other villages in the region, notably in Aups, and the models spread from one village to another, often by the same "masons" or fountain builders. Note the cannon made of two stones forming a rectangle. The tank (L: 2m60, W: 0m70, H: 0m45) is made of rough slabs, laid on edge.
The wash-house made of ashlar stones, joined by iron spikes, asked the washerwomen to kneel in wooden boxes to do the washing. It therefore belongs to the category of seated washhouses. The tank (L: 3m10, l: 1m50) is made up of a rinsing basin and a washing tank separated by a low wall. This wash-house is protected by a semi-circular arch, the arch being made of squared rubble and the filling of everything coming in. It was only in 1848 that this wash-house was placed under a vault, to offer protection to the washerwomen. A niche was created in the wall of the vault.
Date of construction: 10 June 1761 - date of alteration: 1848". (PNRV)
